Discover Sailing Centre - Learn to Sail
Bendigo Yacht Club is an accredited Discover Sailing Centre and offers learn to sail courses for all ages (7 years plus) by qualified Australian Sailing instructors.
Each course runs for 6 sessions on a Saturday morning, usually between 9am to 12pm.
The following courses are offered, depending on demand:
- Start Sailing 1 - is designed to provide a safe and enjoyable introduction to dinghy sailing for complete beginners. The course includes an introduction to fundamental boat handling skills and essential safety knowledge.
- Start Sailing 2 - is designed to consolidate the experiences and knowledge gained in the Start Sailing 1 course and to introduce skills and knowledge that will enable the successful participant to safely and competently sail a small boat in controlled conditions (light winds, enclosed waters) without guidance.
- Better Sailing – Discover Sailing in stronger winds as you develop the skills required to get more speed from your dinghy.
- Start Racing - Your Discover Sailing journey now takes you to your local club/centre where you can join in the fun and challenge of competition as you learn the basics of racing.
Participants in Start Sailing 1 and 2 use Bendigo Yacht Club boats, as follows:
Participants in Better Sailing and Start Racing are encouraged to use their own boat (providing it is safe and in a seaworthy condition), however there may be a limited number of Bendigo Yacht Club boats available.
